What Is Sonic SVM(SONIC)?

Sonic is the first SVM network extension to launch on Solana, for games and applications.

Identified Pain Points

• High transaction costs, congestion on Solana, and lack of gaming-focused infrastructure.
• Scaling Issues: Solana sometimes face unexpected on-chain traffic due to a surge in consumer demand and congests. Millions of users on Solana need SVM environment to settle their transactions.
• Liquidity: dApps need Solana’s liquidity but need to have its own rollup to alleviate congestion & compute unit limitations.
• Solana lacks consumer facing asset diversity: Solana has been all about memes and DeFi, but not too many apps. Millions of existing gamers that have crypto exposure do not have new assets to trade / games to play on Solana due to lack of gaming communities, launchpads, developer tooling, and Go-to-market support for consumer-facing apps. Memecoins are also starting to seek host environment (games) of their assets!
• GTM support for consumer apps on Solana: Launching assets is not all about technical design. Often times Solana consumer projects do not have the necessary growth channels and expertise to acquire users despite having an amazing product.

Competitive Landscape

• Ronin: Sonic SVM is not just a gaming SVM, but a showcase of what is possible via its horizontal scaling framework called HyperGrid, which expands Solana into new domains and helps launch assets and dApps and unforeseen speeds and solves transaction issues.

• Solana Ecosystem: Instead of being a closed ecosystem, HyperGrid’s atomic architecture allows HyperGrid and Sonic SVM to tap into existing programs on top of Solana. (Metaplex, Pyth, Backpack, Honeycomb and others’ deployment are significantly easier on HyperGrid than on something like Eclipse)

• Optimism: Solana-centric state management: Sonic’s architecture highlights concurrent Merkle trees for its State management, allowing state changes in parallel and efficient compression. This reduces transaction costs - up to 100 times less compared to regular Solana transactions. Making it significantly faster than the EVM implementations.

• Eclipse (SVM - EVM): Synergistic approach to Solana narrative building instead of stand-alone ecosystem. Sonic often co-signs deals with Solana Foundation, acting as the on-chain publishing entity for Solana Games in many cases, instead of being a stand-alone entity.
